botanical survey & monitoring

ECUS Ecology has experience in a variety of botanical survey methodologies. Our skilled in-house terrestrial and aquatic botanists contribute to a range of projects, from small surveys at local sites to botanical survey and monitoring schemes on a large scale, across the UK.

ECUS Ltd staff have extensive experience of vegetation survey including Phase I, NVC and detailed monitoring programmes including site condition monitoring undertaken within the Migneint and Berwyn SAC's.

Recent projects undertaken by ECUS and its staff include:

  • A 3 year vegetation monitoring programme for the EU-LIFE Blanket Bogs in Wales Project - a partnership between the RSPB, CCW, FCW and EA that aims to restore large areas of blanket bog to favourable condition in Migneint and Berwyn SAC''s through the blocking of large numbers of moorland drains.
  • Thorne and Hatfield Moors Management Plan (Natural England).
  • Full NVC Pre-notification surveys for English Nature Peak District Team.
  • Full NVC survey and GIS mapping of Lindholme Island SSSI for English Nature.
  • Desk and field study of all fens in the Broads National Park, including an integrated GIS for the Broads Authority area.
  • A GIS for catchment wide SSSI management plans for the Meres and Mosses Natural Area, for English Nature.
  • Site dossiers for all 54 Natura 2000 sites within the Anglian Region on behalf of the Environment Agency.
  • National planning guidelines on restoration of peatlands (HMSO).
  • A review of monitoring techniques for a wide range of protected sites (EA, EN, CCW).
