Our in-house staff are supported by the research and technical staff of fifteen departments within the University if Sheffield.

ECUS is an assessor member of the Institute of Environmental Management and Assessment and our staff are members of a wide range of professional institutions.

Our multi-disciplinary teams have successfully completed many major project including tidal barrage construction, power stations, quarrying and industrial schemes, road and other linear developments.

Comprehensive Ecological & Landscape Input

Of particular note is our strength in providing comprehensive ecological and landscape input into Environmental Assessment.

We have considerable experience in scoping and managing EA’s from project conception through to post-project appraisal. In addition, we are frequently called upon to audit specialist aspects of Environmental Statements. Our proven approach to this area has been successfully employed in progressing a number of environmentally sensitive projects to the satisfaction of both the statutory consultees and planning authorities.

ECOLOGICAL SURVEY & MONITORING

One of the principal elements of the majority of ecological work is the survey. We need to know what is on a site before we can assess its value, understand its management needs or look at environmental impacts. Our track record over the last twenty years has included:

  • Phase 1 and extended Phase 1 surveys
  • National vegetation classification survey and mapping
  • River corridor and river habitat surveys
  • Protected species
  • Aquatic and terrestrial invertebrate surveys including specialist identification
  • Breeding and winter bird surveys
  • Fish
  • Water quality and ecotoxicology
  • Other surveys such as lichens, fungi, tree root identification, etc
