Habitat Creation and Management

Ecus ecology has a wealth of demonstrable experience in terrestrial and aquatic habitat creation both for conservation purposes and as mitigation for development.

We have an in-house site team with the technical knowledge and practical skills to enable much of this work to be carried out by Ecus.

We have particular expertise in wetland creation, river and lake restoration, badger sett construction and great crested newt and white-clawed crayfish habitat creation, sand martin wall build, kingfisher tube and bat roost design and build.

Habitat creation services

We are experienced in the design and management of habitat creation and restoration schemes involving the following:

  • Woodland, hedgerow and scrub habitats
  • Pond and wetland management
  • Water and wetland habitats
  • Grassland and heathland habitats
  • Access improvement works
  • Interpretation and education
  • Tree planting and woodland management
  • Meadow and heathland management
  • Fencing, paths and gates

Following habitat creation we produce an on-going management plan that is practical and cost effective to implement.

We have recently undertaken work in all of these areas and more on projects undertaken on behalf of some of the UK’s best known organisations including The National Trust, Tarmac, the Environment Agency, Natural England, Barnsley Metropolitan Borough Council, Raven Group and York College.
