Mining Investigations

Being based within a major former coal mining area, we have considerable experience in undertaking site investigations for abandoned mining hazards, including shallow mine workings, mine shafts, bell pits and adits.

A typical mining investigation would start with a desk-based review of geological maps and mine abandonment plans, followed if necessary by probe drilling under a license from the Coal Authority.

Based on the results of the desk study and site investigation, a stability risk assessment is undertaken, with full recommendations for stabilisation works (e.g., by pressure grouting) where necessary.
