Senior/Principal Bat Ecologist

Locations available: Manchester, Sheffield, Basingstoke, Bristol, Cardiff, Exeter.

We’re looking for a Senior or Principal Ecologist with a strong background in bat ecology, including having held a bat survey licence for a minimum of 3 years, proven experience in bat mitigation design and delivery and either recent ‘Named Ecologist’ experience or Accredited Agent experience and written references to attain Named Ecologist status. 

You’ll play a key role in leading projects, supporting colleagues, and delivering practical, high-quality solutions to complex ecological challenges. 

The Role 

As a Senior / Principal Ecologist, you will: 

  • Lead and manage ecological projects from inception to completion  
  • Deliver and oversee bat surveys, impact assessments, and mitigation strategies  
  • Produce and review high-quality technical reports  
  • Supporting and mentoring junior ecologists 
  • Contribute to project planning, tenders, and client relationships  
  • Work collaboratively across multi-disciplinary teams 

What we’re looking for 

  • Strong experience in UK habitat and protected species assessment  
  • Proven experience in bat surveys, mitigation design, and implementation  
  • Bat survey and/or mitigation licence (highly desirable)  
  • Sound knowledge of legislation, particularly EPS licensing  
  • Strong report writing and technical review skills  
  • Experience managing projects and, ideally, people  
  • Relevant degree in ecology or related discipline  
  •  A proactive, flexible approach with strong attention to detail
