About the opportunity 

Cura Terrae Land and Nature, formerly Ecus, is looking for suitable candidates to join the Archaeology team based in our Sheffield office.  

We are seeking individuals who want to learn new skills and take on a wide range of projects and tasks. In the first instance, we are looking to recruit for busy summer months on away-work projects in East Anglia. Following the award of future projects there may be opportunities for contract extensions, with Cura Terrae Land and Nature employees gaining a range of both office and site-based skills. 

We are actively looking for Project Archaeologists, including those who may have experience in geophysical survey, and who possess real enthusiasm for their work. We are happy to hear from candidates with a range of experience and welcome applications from those early in their career.

Project Archaeologist role responsibilities: 

  • Provide support to the project lead in the delivery of archaeological projects to professional standards. 
  • Be competent in basic hand excavation and recording techniques, with supervision and ongoing skills training provided. 
  • Work safely in accordance with Company Health & Safety requirements. 
  • Improve and develop skillsets and expertise, engaging with guidance and training. 
  • Maintain personal and professional development and training to ensure professional currency and meet the changing demands of the job. 
  • Represent the Company in a professional and positive manner. 

Additional duties 

  • Work at distance from designated office (away work) as required. 
  • Carry out all and any other such duties, training and/or hours of work as may be reasonably required, and which are consistent with the general level of responsibility for this role. 
  • Maintain a full UK driving licence (preferred). 
  • Contribute to and support positive morale within teams. 
  • Maintain accreditation at Practitioner level or above in the Chartered Institute for Archaeologists (PCIfA) (preferred but not essential).
