Project Archaeologists - Barnard Castle

About the opportunity

Cura Terrae Land and Nature, formerly Ecus, is looking for suitable Project Archaeologist candidates to join the Archaeology team based in our Barnard Castle office in Co. Durham. You will be engaged in a range of site-based work across the North of England, working on both ‘home’ and ‘away’ jobs. Posts are available for immediate start.

We are seeking individuals who want to learn new skills and take on a variety of projects and types of work. In the first instance, we are looking to recruit for busy summer months working on projects in North Yorkshire, Cumbria and Co Durham. Thereafter, there is upcoming work in Northumberland, South Yorkshire and Scotland. Following the award of future projects there may be opportunities for contract extensions, for working with colleagues from other regional offices, and to gain a range of office- as well as site-based skills.

We are actively looking for Project Archaeologists who possess real enthusiasm for their work. We are happy to hear from candidates with a range of relevant experience and welcome applications from those early in their career, as well as those looking to move up to Supervisor roles. Applicants based in northern England, or willing to move, and possessing a clean driver’s license are required.

With a generous healthcare scheme, £500 refer a friend scheme, a starting point of 25 days holiday plus bank holidays and 100% payment of professional membership fees, our employee benefits are among the best in the industry.

Project Archaeologist role responsibilities:

  • Provide support to the project lead in the delivery of archaeological projects to professional standards.

  • Work safely in accordance with Company Health & Safety requirements.
  • Improve and develop skillsets and expertise, engaging with guidance and training to maintain personal and professional development.
  • Represent the Company in a professional and positive manner.

Additional duties

  • Work at distance from designated office (away work) as required.
  • Carry out all and any other such duties, training and/or hours of work as may be reasonably required, and which are consistent with the general level of responsibility for this role.
  • Maintain a full UK driving license (preferred).
  • Contribute to and support positive morale within teams.
  • Maintain accreditation at Practitioner level or above in the Chartered Institute for Archaeologists (PCIfA) (preferred but not essential).
